Resources are extremely limited in Havana for a
specific project like this but we are working with a very creative group of
artisans who have strong vision and purpose. Here is a short "needs" list
which will help nurture this first incentive and help establish sustainable
employment for a growing group of artisans there. Finance We are committed to supporting the program by fundraising to provide salaries for all artisans during the 24+ months of construction. The Office of the Historian also has a major commitment to provide materials, construct the exhibit display, and make changes at Castillo de la Fuerza for this major permanent exhibit. Construction of the ship has been broken down into 61 steps which comprise 28 more or less equal units of work. An additional four units of work has been allocated for the many individual figures aboard ship who depict everyday tasks aboard an 18th century ship of the line. As each unit is work is completed to the satisfaction of the museum officials and the Friends, payment is made to artisans who are working as independent workers. A donation of $2000. Canadian (may be spread over 12 months if requested) will support the funding of 2 units of work and needed supplies by the artisans. Support for at least two units of work will be recognized on a permanent plaque within the exhibit. Contact kenwoods@rogers.com for more information. Hand and Power Tools -We are now in fairly good shape, but still are looking for small hand tools for the children's/ youth workshop. For example, - Coping saws, small clamps, hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, an inventory of supplies - screws, nails, glue etc., Documentation We now have the beginnings of a nautical colonial maritime library for the museum but are always looking for additional information on 18th century shipbuilding, modern model making for youth, Books on how to make half hull models etc. Copies in Spanish (or English) of model maker's reference books, magazines, showing modelers' techniques are also needed Computer Interface - Funding for the computer and software interface for a virtual tour of the ship. This involves the use of a Touch screen monitor. |
